A growing number of adults are opting for orthodontic teeth-straightening treatment.
Having treatment to straighten crooked or uneven teeth can have a positive impact on appearance, self-confidence and well-being; but why are more adults opting for this treatment now?
Straightening adult teeth has never been easier. that’s why.
By using modern dentistry techniques, it is so much easier to have your teeth straightened in a cost effective, comfortable and aesthetically pleasing way. It is never too late to perfect your smile. A balanced bite and good-looking smile will lead to long term, good oral health and comfort, and now you can do it without uncomfortable silver metal braces, or unsightly frames.
Invisalign are revolutionary, the clear, invisible brace seeing many adults taking the plunge to straighter, healthier teeth.
Why consider teeth straightening?
As well as improving appearance there are plenty of health benefits from correcting a mis-aligned bite or crooked teeth. It can be hard to clean uneven or overlapping teeth and this can lead to a build-up of plaque and bacteria that can cause tooth decay and gum disease. A mis-aligned jaw can cause pressure and muscle tension or strain that can result in jaw pain or headaches.
What has changed?
In recent times, getting adult braces fitted is a much more common occurrence. Gone are the days of large metal braces that were self-conscious and uncomfortable to wear. Orthodontic specialists can now offer clear and near invisible braces; tooth-coloured or ceramic braces are specifically designed to blend in with your teeth whilst applying subtle pressure to realign your teeth.
The solution
An alternative to permanent braces, Invisalign are clear plastic aligners custom-made specifically for your teeth. The aligners fit gently over your teeth and gradually move them into a new placement. Each set of bespoke aligners are worn for a recommended amount of time, then you move to a new set of aligners to fit your newly realigned teeth. Careful monitoring and reviews every 4 to 6 weeks will guide you through your treatment, but typically each aligner is worn for approximately 2 weeks and a full treatment will include somewhere between 18-36 sets of aligners and will take between 9-18 months.
Invisalign aligners are removable; you take them out to eat, drink and clean your teeth. You can also remove your aligners before participating in sport activities or attending meetings or special functions where you may feel more comfortable not wearing them.
So flexible! this flexibility means that your teeth straightening treatment fits in with your life and removes any discomfort or feeling of self-consciousness.
